$1 Salary for Governor?
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could earn $206,500 for his stint in office, but he gives it back to the state.
So does Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, though the salary for the Volunteer State's governor is much less at $85,000.
New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine accepts a salary ... of a dollar, a bargain considering the state has set the salary for the chief state official at $175,000.
A survey of governor's salaries by The Council of State Governments found the average pay is $124,398. The biggest salary is California, if Schwarzenegger chose to collect it. Since he doesn't, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer makes the most of any state's governor at $179,000. Maine Gov. John Baldacci makes the least of any governor at $70,000.
